Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Ahmed Iliasu, describes the Governor of Kano state, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje as an epitome of community policing.
Noting that with the good and genuine intention of the governor for improving quality security system in the state, the state government is doing extremely well in joining hands with all the security agencies in the state towards achieving that.
While commending Ganduje’s strategy of including the traditional institutions to purposely enhance the security architecture of the state, CP Iliasu assured the Command’s support for effective policing to protect lives and properties, at all cost, within the purview of the law.
He made the assertions during a courtesy visit to the governor at Government House, Kano, together with other top brass of the Command who escorted him, as a show of all-inclusive support to the governor on security matters.
“Your Excellency Sir, being an epitome of community policing in the country, you are changing the demography and geography of the state in the area of security and peaceful co-existence,” he said.
He added that “We are ready to work with you for safer Kano state. We have reposed all the confidence in you Sir.”
According to him, since his assumption into office in the last few weeks, his Command was able to arrest 660 suspected criminals with many forms of criminal activities, out of which 600 were prosecuted.
Iliasu commended Kano state government efforts in the area of assisting the Command with security gadgets for curtailing criminal activities however sophisticated they could be, construction of blocks, zonal offices among others.
In his response governor Ganduje discloses that when the new Commissioner of Police came to Kano there was drastic reduction of criminal activities in the state, emphasising that, “…banditry has gone into the thin air, cattle rustling nowhere to be found, while armed robbery and kidnapping were drastically reduced.”
To drastically address the security challenges facing the country and Kano inclusive, governor Ganduje said, ” Falgore forest has already being designed for Military Training Ground. And very soon we are developing structures for that purpose. Plan is in top gear towards that.”
Explaining that, when some forest were being used by some criminals, Falgore forest, according to him, would not be left to be safe haven for criminals, “That cannot be possible with Falgore forest. We are putting the forest to good and timely use, so that criminals are tamed and shamed.”
Kano state governor further appreciated that, there is always being synergy between all the security agencies in the state. A behaviour he said, that contributes to the immense improvement in the security system and operations of the state.
“I want use this opportunity to inform you that, we will invite the Inspector General of Police to come and commission some structures we built for the Nigeria Police Force, Zonal offices included. So also the modern gadgets room and equipments, the state put in place for the State Command,” says Ganduje.
On the community policing aspect, he assured that, all hands would continue to be on deck for improving the security of lives and properties in the state.
Adding that, “We are all aware of an important role our traditional institutions could play in this area, that was why we organised Security Summit at the Karaye Emirate and soon we are organising another one in Rano Emirate. All our five Emirates would continue to be included while designing our security architecture.”
